
Let’s talk about the 500mm 700W Carbon Fiber FIR Lamp
If you’ve ever struggled with heat lamps that scorch the surface of your parts before the inside even gets warm, you know exactly why we built this. We wanted something that could actually get into the material without burning the top layer to a crisp. That’s where the far-infrared (FIR) carbon fiber filament comes in. It just works differently than those old-school quartz heaters.
The power and the footprint
We settled on 700W over a 500mm length for a reason. It gives you a steady, even spread of heat. No annoying hotspots, no guesswork. And the best part? It hits operating temperature way faster than a ceramic heater. You aren’t standing around waiting for your equipment to warm up, which means you can actually get to work.
Why carbon fiber?
We wrap these carbon fiber filaments in high-purity quartz. Why? Because carbon fiber can take a beating. It handles thermal stress much better than tungsten, so it won’t just snap the moment you start cycling the power on and off. Since the FIR wavelength sinks deeper into the material, it’s a lifesaver for drying thick coatings or heating up dense plastics. **One quick warning though:**be gentle with them. These tubes are a bit more sensitive to vibrations than short-wave lamps. If you drop one during installation, the filament is gone. Just make sure your mounting brackets are nice and secure.
Getting it running
Wiring these in is pretty simple. Just make sure your PID controller matches the lamp’s resistance. One thing to keep in mind: because these don’t get as scorching hot on the surface as short-wave lamps, you’ll probably need to move the lamp a bit closer to your workpiece to get the heat flux you’re looking for. If you’re swapping out an old short-wave halogen lamp for this 700W unit, don’t be surprised when the heating curve changes. You’ll notice the surface doesn’t sear as quickly, but the inside warms up much more evenly. Just keep an eye on your conveyor speed so you don’t accidentally under-cure your parts.
