
Let’s Talk About Carbon Fiber Quartz Lamps
We build our carbon fiber quartz lamps to do one thing really well: push far-infrared (FIR) heat exactly where it needs to go. Most people are used to standard metal filaments, but we do things differently. By using a carbon fiber heating element inside a high-purity quartz tube, we shift the heat to longer wavelengths. The result? The heat actually sinks deep into your materials. You get a thorough cure or dry without accidentally scorching the surface. It’s a much gentler, more efficient way to get the job done. The nitty-gritty on power Here’s the thing about wattage and voltage: it’s a balancing act. If we spec out a high-wattage tube, we’re basically packing more heat into every inch. This is great because it lets you shrink the actual footprint of your machine. But you have to be careful. Your power supply needs to match the lamp’s rated voltage perfectly. If you try to force too much current through a low-voltage tube, that carbon fiber element will just snap. And that’s a headache nobody wants. Why carbon and quartz? Carbon fiber is the real star here. It handles heat way better than nichrome wire and reacts almost instantly. We wrap it in quartz because quartz doesn’t warp much when it gets hot, and it lets infrared rays pass right through. Instead of wasting energy heating up the glass tube, the heat goes straight into your workpiece. Plus, if you’re dealing with nasty chemical fumes or need a specific wavelength, we can add some custom coatings to the glass to keep things protected. Getting them into your shop For most of you, these are just drop-in replacements for those old halogen or metal-sheath heaters. You wire them up to your PID controller, set your dwell time, and you’re off. One heads-up, though:be gentle with them. The heat output is massive, but the quartz is fragile. These tubes can’t handle a lot of shaking or physical hits. Just make sure your mounting brackets are secure and you aren’t putting direct pressure on the glass. Treat them with a little care, and they’ll treat you right.
