
Let’s Talk 15mm Carbon Fiber Tubing
If you’re tired of lugging around bulky aluminum or worrying about steel rusting out on you, our 15mm carbon fiber tubes are exactly what you need. We basically take carbon filaments and lock them together with epoxy resin—either winding or pultruding them—so you get something that’s incredibly stiff and light.
Why the 15mm size works
The 15mm outer diameter is a sweet spot. It’s got a great natural resistance to bending and twisting. Depending on how thick you want the walls, these work perfectly as the “backbone” for things like robotic arms, camera gimbals, or any frame where precision is everything. Plus, there’s a huge perk: they don’t warp. Whether your shop is freezing in January or sweltering in July, the dimensions stay exactly where they should be.
The build quality
We use high-modulus fiber because we want to keep the footprint small without sacrificing that “rock solid” feel. Here is the cool part: unlike metals, these don’t get “tired” (fatigue) after being stressed over and over. You end up with a part that feels lighter than titanium but can still take a beating. We can do matte or gloss finishes, but don’t let the looks fool you—the strength is the same regardless of the shine.
A few things to keep in mind
When it comes to putting these into your build, epoxy bonding or mechanical clamps are your best bet. But a word of warning:**don’t over-tighten your clamps.**Carbon fiber is tough, but if you crank a metal collar down too hard, you risk crushing the walls or splitting the tube lengthwise. Just a firm grip is all you need. And heads up—these tubes conduct electricity. If you’re building something with live wires nearby, make sure you insulate them so you don’t end up with a short circuit. Sure, they cost a bit more per meter than a heavy alloy, but when every gram counts, it’s a trade-off that usually pays for itself.
